In this contemporary society, this is a concern about whether zoos should be criticized for mistretating animals or it can act as a conservation hub to preserve natural habitat. From my perspective, although some cruel zoos are still existing nowadays, it can be effectively addressed by stricter governments’ policies. Moreover, well-managed zoos play an indispensable role in protecting endangered animals and reintroding them into the wild.

On the one hand, being captivated in the zoos can lead to the loss of animal’s freedom and ultimately take a toll on their mental and physical health. Animals are born to be in their natural habitat, where they survive by hunting and play an integral role in the food chains, which helps maintaining biodiversity. However, in zoos, they are confined in a limited space, restricting them from doing their natural behivours. This, in turn, may result in the loss of animals’ freedom and may even pose a grave threat to theecological balance. Furthermore, animals’ well-bing may be negatively affected by having to live in a restricted space. Being forced to be familiar with limited naturalistic enclosures may lead to some abnormal behaviours in animals, such as stress or losing their appetite. For instance, elephants require major territories in the nature, thus being confined in a cage may lead to struggles in their daily activities, which can directly contribute to the fall in mood and eventually lead to the premature death in animals. Nevertheless, this predicament can be partially addressed by stricter legislations from the government, including applying a standard regarding zoos’ naturalistic environment or scrutinizing the development of this entertained industry to avoid animals abusion.

On the other hand, with proper navigation and goals, zoos can successfully serve as a sustainable practice to preserving endangered species and play a vital role in educating the public. To begin with, the issue of environmental degradation has become increasingly alarming, which predominantly stems from humans’ industrial and agricultural activities. Such a negative trend mainly contribute to the loss of habitat, thus animals may face the threat of extinction regarding of the environmental problems. Therefore, zoos with its artificial environments that resemble with the natural conditions will be an efficient way for animals to survive and maintain wildlife populations. To be clear, panda is one of the species which has benefited from breeding programmes of zoos and their population has gradually increased, preventing them from becoming extinct. Furthermore, zoos should not be closed, since they can act as an educational outreach, fostering people’s empathy toward wildlife. By visiting zoos, not only may individuals develop a sense of environmental stewardship, but they can also roaden their horizons about natural wildlife and the characteristics of various species. For example, through organizing field trips to zoos, schools can instill environmental awareness in students by informing them about the significance of biodiversity and the need to protect animals’ natural habitat.

＋In conclusion, while there are still low-quality zoos which may mistreat animals in this day and age, governments’ regulations can notably tackle this issue. Additionally, zoos take the primary responsibilities for preserving endangered animals and reintroduction species into the wild.
