In this day and age, the use of bicycles for getting between places has become less popular compares to few decades ago. ＋In this essay I would explain the reasons leading to this tendency before proposing some practical solutions.

The are some major reasons that explain why the use of bicycles has become less common in this modern day. First, in many cities, especially highly developed ones, namely Tokyo, London, Washington DC, the public transportation systems are so efficient that the need for individual means of transportation has become less prominent. For instance, Tokyo salary mans who live far away from their offices can easily take a few underground routes with under 30 minutes to reach their destination, which could have been much longer if bikes was used. Second, in many cities, the use of bike may be hindered by the overcomplex traffic system along with the lack of biker-prioritized routes which can keep cyclers safe. Thus many people have become reluctant to use bikes as their main vehicle.

But I believe that this tendency is not irreversible, governmental interventions along with raising awareness of each individual could effectively mitigate it. There should be changes in the regulations that can effectively encourage more people cycling more. The government can alleviate the tax burden of bicycle manufacturers encouraging them producing more bikes with cheaper price. Furthermore, make changes to the traffic system so that it is safer to use bike, such as setting aside a lane on the road exclusively for cyclers. Also, each citizen should be better acknowledged of the health benefits of using bicycles, and consider to use it more frequently.＋

In conclusion, due to the improved efficiency of public transportation along with not yet fully developed traffic system, cycling has become less common in recent years. However, the government can still mitigate this by issuing new regulations that can lower the expense of cycling and make it safe during usage.
