The maps illustrate how Station Street changed over the period from 1960 to the present day. Overall, the entire area underwent a radical transformation. Most of the small specialized retail stores have been demolished to make way for large consolidated facilities such as a supermarket, parking lot and hotel, while a railway station and a dry cleaner’s have remained unchanged. In 1960, the north side of Station Street was located by a row of seven small individual shops. At the bottom left corner, there was a grocery, which was next to public telephones. Furthermore, the railway station was situated between the public telephones and the dry cleaner’s. At present, a pharmacy has been replaced by a parking lot at the top left corner, while a cafe has taken the place of a fish and chip shop to the top right corner. Moreover, a row of five small stores in the middle in the north have been cleared to make way for a big supermarket. In the bottom north corner, the grocery has been replaced by a hotel. The public telephones have been knocked down to provide extra space for expanding the railway station, whereas the dry cleaners experience no change.
