The chart illustrates the number of people using fixed telephone lines, mobile phones, and the internet in China over the period spanning from 1994 to 2005. Overall, all of them witnessed an upward trend. Notably, despite growing consistently, fixed telephone lines were overtaken by mobile phones in 2001. Conversely, the figures for the Internet users were the lowest over the given period. Regarding the number of individuals using fixed phone lines, it stood at about 20 million people in 1994, making it the highest. Over the following 7 years, it grew gradually to roughly 250 million people, when it was exceeded by the figure for mobile phone users. Later, it reached its peak of roughly 350 in 2005. In terms of the figures for mobile phone users, they were virtually absent between 1994 and 1995. A sharp increase to about 240 million was seen in them before they surpassed fixed phone line users in 2001 and peaked at around 450 million in 2005. By contrast, the Internet was not prevalent during the timeframe, being virtually absent in the first three years and rising considerably to roughly 100 million.
