Introduction

In the contemporary epoch where juvenile delinquency is surging at an alarming rate, whether narrative-driven education works remains a subject of intense debate. While it is undeniable that this form emerges as a useful tool to educate students about legal knowledge, I hold a firm belief that education should be delivered from various perspectives.

Body

On the one hand, supporters for these educational programs contend that storytelling is inherently more engaging and memorable than dry theoretical legal lectures. In contrast to dry legal codes and statistics which fail to leave a long-lasting impression on the general public, storytelling evokes strong emotional responses by humanizing the consequences of crime. By showing them the real-world fallouts such as family shatters, lost freedom, ruined reputation, it creates a powerful psychological deterrent. For example, popular VTV shows dramatize real-life illicit cases, allowing viewers to witness the tragic consequences of committing in criminality that offenders have to pay. Therefore, using narratives is undoubtedly a superior method for raising legal awareness compared to traditional lecturing. On the other hand, there is a strong argument that these series of educational programs are purely entertainment that can lead to unprecedented social issues. When media programs prioritize high rating over moral educational purposes, they often dramatize the graphic details or glorify the criminals’ intellect. This can inadvertently backfire by creating a “script” for potential criminals to bypass the law or by desensitizing audiences’ emotion to violence. For instance, if the programs concentrate heavily on how the offenders successfully exploit legal loopholes, impressionable viewers may become more attracted to the technique rather than eventual punishment. As a result, from educating people with meaningful lessons, storytelling can undetermine its own educational purposes.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the narrative approach in crime education is effective only when the viewers can distinguish the fine line between education and entertainment. Furthermore, people should acquire legal knowledge from reliable sources, family guidance and government-led initiatives to enhance overall public awareness.
