Nowadays, more advanced means of transit such as cars, metros or trains enable residents to travel faster compared to bicycles. Also, cars conveniently allow users to carry a larger number of passengers or shopping, which continuously makes cycling less practical in years. Another contributing factor is the unsuitable weather conditions in plenty of countries, leading to people avoiding cycling. A case in point is apparent in Viet Nam, where the citizens find it difficult to ride bicycles in such hot summers and heavy rains.＋

Addressing this phenomenon requires a multifaceted approach. One effective remedy lies in financial incentives that governments should subsidise public bicycles and offer tax reduction for cyclists. This approach would help alleviate the problem as more people would cycle to lessen the financial burden placed on themselves. For instance, “Green Bikes” in Finland - a well-known project of the government has successfully increased the overall quantity of bicycles used due to financial solutions. Another measure that could be taken involves awareness campaigns in various public locations such as school, media or community events. This may encourage the populace to raise awareness of environmental and health benefits by cycling.

In conclusion, although cycling remains unpopular mainly because it is often inconvenient and not suitable for the geographic elements, supportive government policies could significantly increase its popularity. Governments should therefore facilitate opportunities for the public to achieve long-term values.
