Opinions are divided on whether watching TV at an early age is beneficial for children or resulting in some long-term consequences. There are compelling arguments on both sides of this debate, both of which will be examined in this essay. After considering these perspectives, I will present my own opinion and justify it with supporting reasons.

Those who believe that young people are negatively affected by watching TV programs typically argue that excessive screen time can cause the individuals to be easily addicted, leading to some severe health issues, such as backache or eye strain. This, in the long term, might likely disrupt their sleep patterns and limit the time they spend outdoors. As a result, spending a large amount of time watching TV can not only inadvertently foster the children to lead a sedentary lifestyle but also increase the levels of depression or anxiety. Additionally,those who prefer to glue their eyes to the TV screens tend not to pay full attention to their study, directly having a negative influence on their academic performance. To be more specific, prolonged screen exposure is believed to decrease the attention span, making learners difficult to concentrate on their study or push them to do homework assignments perfunctorily, which therefore, gradually lowering their academic success at schools.

Detractors of the aforementioned view, however, hold the opinion that TV programs will be undoubtedly advantageous for children in the near future. To commence with, unlike the contents on some social media platforms which can include both toxic and helpful information, those on TV are mostly educational because they have to pass through various strict censoring processes. As a result, when young individuals access such contents, they can acquire more new knowledge and broaden their horizons via a wide range of academic channels specifically designed for kids. Take VTV7 - a famous national TV program in Vietnam for example, their subjects vary from scientific experiments, space exploration to wildlife documentaries, which will not only appeal to the youngsters but also help raise their awareness about their surrounding environment. Moreover, watching TV at a young age allows children to improve their language skills since they have the opportunity to be familiar with a wide range of vocabularies and storytelling programs. Therefore, it is true that kids are able to nurture their reading and hearing abilities as well as enhance cognitive function.

In conclusion, despite acknowledging the disadvantages of permitting children to watch TV, I contend that thanks to TV programs, youngsters have more chances to widen their knowledge and improve soft skills, which are undoubtedly important for their future life. However, it is hoped that parents should shoulder the responsibility to limit their screen time and create a balanced lifestyle for their offspring.
