＋Some people think that the increasing usage of digital devices to communicate in young people may create a detrimental impact on their reading and writing skills. While I acknowledge the helpfulness of digital communication, I would agree that increasing digital communication in young people will produce negative effects on their reading and writing skills.

On the one hand, it could be argued that the usage of computers and mobile phones for communicating of young people is beneficial for writing and reading skills. One of the main benefits is that digital communication increases the frequency of reading and writing in daily life. Young people nowadays read and write more than ever before through texting or blogging. Moreover, by using textspeak with short punchy sentences which provides more concise writing and the ability to get the point faster, young people can summarize key points and present ideas concisely which are valuable in language skills.＋ On the other hand, there are certain reasons why the increasing usage of digital communication in young people has had a negative effect on their reading and writing skills. While texting increases the frequency of using these skills, after getting used to text languages, young people may struggle with writing and reading the formal contexts and extended texts. Because of containing lots of simple language, the texting habits may create the demand for short, condensed information and simple vocabs. Therefore, young people may reduce the attention span for extended texts, struggle with writing proper essays in formal contexts and less likely absorb new vocabulary. Moreover, the computers and phones have spelling and grammar auto-correct extensions so that young people less desire to write correct sentences or check the texts thoroughly.＋ Instead, young people should practice writing essays or diaries and reading news every day besides chatting to maintain writing and reading skills.

In conclusion, I agree that digital communication has significant benefits in reading and writing skills of young people because of the frequency of using both skills and the ability to condense the ideas. However, I am more convinced that increasing communication usage of computers and mobile phones by young people has had negative effects on these skills since text habits can ruin their ability to absorb or produce formal texts. It is recommended that writing essays, diaries or reading news can help young people strengthen these skills.
