In this contemporary society, opinions are divided on whether the purpose of the museum should be entertainment or education. This essay will analyze both perspectives before concluding with my view.

On the one hand, many people think that museums should be entertaining in order to attract visitors and encourage repeat visits. Regarding the former, many travellers, especially young people are likely to visit amusing museums rather than boring ones. As a result, if local authorities focus on building fascinating museums, there will be more people visiting them, thereby contributing to economic growth. As for the latter, entertaining museums can also encourage people to pay a visit again. This is especially suitable for educational museums, where repeat visits can help visitors to review the knowledge while also feeling relaxed simultaneously.On the other hand, there are two main reasons why education should be the main purpose of museums. One main factor is to raise public knowledge about different fields from science, arts to history. This is because museums can display real objects and images that might encourage visitors to explore more about the topics. For example, students might find it more interesting to see sculptures of their local heroes and listen to their stories through guides, thereby making them recall the historical knowledge more easily rather than reading the textbooks alone. Additionally, museums can provide a learning environment where people can exchange their ideas and show their creative thinking with others, which further supports the viewpoint by boosting the visitors' creativity ability.From my point of view, there should be a balance between entertainment and education when it comes to museum purposes. While enjoyable museums can encourage more visits, increasing the local and national income, educational ones can help raise public knowledge and creativity, thereby sharpening the visitors' mindset.
