The line chart illustrates the percentage of Europeans of different age groups who participated in gym activities at least once a month at four year intervals from 1990 to 2010. Overall, all age groups experienced an upward trend. Notably, the people aged 18-24 saw the most pronounced growth for most of the period , with exception for 1990 and 1998, when it was temporarily overtaken by the people aged 25-34. Looking first at younger groups, the individuals aged 25-34 and aged 18-24 both witnessed a marked increase. Initially, a similar trend was seen in both groups, with their figures remaining close before converging at nearly 30% in 1998. By the end of the period, the resident aged 25-34 had been exceeded by the 18-24 age range, eventually ending the period in second place, accounting for 50%. Therefore, people aged 18-24 became the leading position with its figure being approximately 60%. Turning to the older groups, both witnessed a sharp rise, however, their rates of increase remained insufficient to surpass those of the younger cohorts. Specifically, the proportion of Europeans attending the gyms grew steadily, leaving off roughly 20% from 2002 to 2006 before reaching a peak of 40%. Similarly, the 45-and-over age group fluctuated between approximately 3% and 10% prior to 2006, it then rose sharply to around 20% at the end of the period.
