Nowadays, only a small number of youngsters attend classical music concerts or learn to play this kind of music. This state of affairs can be attributed to several reasons, and I believe that it is unnecessary to force or encourage them to engage with this genre.

In the past, classical music faced minimal competition due to the lack of modern music genres and digital entertainment platforms. However, this is no longer the case. This is largely due to the explosion of digital platforms such as TikTok or Youtube which have popularized fast-tempo, catchy melodies like Pop, Hiphop or EDM. In contrast, classical music usually has slow-placed and long tracks, thereby being considered as a boring and outdated kind of music. Hence, the evolution of entertainment media is the root cause of this problem. Another important factor contributing to this problem is that young people naturally seek stress relief and vibrant social experiences, whereas classical performances take place in formal concert halls, where tickets are often expensive. Besides, audiences need to be equipped with deep musicology knowledge to fully appreciate this genre which is opposite to the desire of youngsters. As a result, few young individuals choose to learn or attend classical music concerts.From my perspective, society should not attempt to force or stimulate the younger generation to engage in classical music. One reason is that modern youths value individual autonomy and personal freedom of choice. Imposing or intentionally pressuring young music listeners to engage with an art form that they do not naturally enjoy easily creates psychological resistance. Consequently, respecting their natural inclination allows them to genuinely connect with contemporary kinds of music that better reflect their own identity. Furthermore, culture and music naturally evolve over time; older art forms naturally fade or become niche to make space for contemporary creations. Investing a lot of money to revive an outdated, low-demand genre is financially inefficient. These resources should instead be directed toward supporting modern, thriving creative industries, which offer better career opportunities for the youth. As a result, allowing classical music to exist naturally as a niche market is more realistic and beneficial for the economy.

In conclusion, the decline of classical music is an inevitable result of modern entertainment options and the academic complexity of the genre. Hence, attempts to force or encourage young people are unnecessary due to the fact that society should respect natural cultural evolution and also allocate resources to contemporary genres.
