The area chart illustrates the changes of employment status in the UK steel industry, while the line graph depicts the changes in three steel industries including total demand, production and import in the UK between 1970 and 2000. Overall, the employment status in the UK peaked in 1970. By contrast, it was lowest at the end of the period with a significantly lower number of employees. A similar downward trend was observed in steel production and demand, whereas imports saw an upward trend, while at the initial period, total UK demand and production recorded the peak value but they were noticeably decreased over the end of the period. Regrading the employment figures in UK steel industry, the number of people was the highest at 50000 people in 1970. Following that, it declined slightly, with the number decreasing by approximately 10000 people in 1980. However, this decline was not signs of stopping, as the figures continued to drop substantially in 1990, with 20000 individuals. it decreased slightly at the end of the period, at 18000 in 2000. Concerning the value changes in the UK, the import value was the only increase compared with two other categories, which the figures climbed from 12000 to 75000 in 2000. In contrast, total UK demand and production were two highest categoríe, with 200000 and 180000, respectively. However, they fell significantly from 1970 to 2000, where the figures was 100000 and 80000, respectively.
