Introduction

Some people suggest that paying for education and health care should be the responsibility of the government, while others believe this obligation should be taken on by other parties. In this essay, I would evaluate both views before proposing my own opinion.

Body

Those who oppose government funding often focus on cost and personal responsibility. Schools, universities, hospitals, and medical staff require enormous public spending, which must ultimately come from taxation. If the state pays for everything, citizens may face a heavier financial burden, while public institutions may become inefficient because they do not need to compete for customers. Some people also believe that individuals should contribute towards services from which they benefit directly. From this perspective, government support should be limited to people who genuinely cannot afford to pay, rather than being provided equally to everyone.

However, education and health care are not purely benefits. An educated population supports economic growth, better public decision making, and a more skilled workforce. In the same way, access to medical treatment prevents illness from becoming more serious and reduces wider risks to society. If these services depend mainly on personal income, children from poorer families may receive weaker education, while people may delay treatment simply because they cannot afford it. This allows financial disadvantages from one generation to the next. Governments should therefore fund a strong basis system that is available for everyone. Individuals may still pay for private schools, faster treatment, or additional services, but essential access should never depend entirely on wealth.

Conclusion

In conclusion, although full government funding can be expensive and may create inefficiency, education and health care are too important to be left mainly to individual ability to pay. The state should provide reliable basic services for all citizens, while allowing private choices beyond that foundation.
