The pie charts illustrate the percentages of household spending in six different items in a particular nation in 1958 and 2008. Overall, food constituted the largest proportion in 1958, while housing was the dominant share in 2008. In detail, the proportion of household spending on food took the lead at 32% in 1958, followed by housing with 22%. Coming next, trailing behind housing was clothing, standing at 18%. Entertainment ranked fourth at 13%. Meanwhile, transport and luxury goods accounted for nearly identical shares at 8% and 7%, respectively. In 2008, different trends were observed. To be specific, the housing category rose from 22% to 32%, representing a 10% increase. Similar upward trends can be seen in the figures for luxury goods and transport, with both sectors registering 17%. In contrast, the remaining categories reported the converse trend. Households allocated 12% of their budgets to food, which was double the data for entertainment (6%). The clothing figure declined marginally from 18% to 16%.
