The bar chart illustrates the proportion of waste treated in four ways in the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and the UK. Overall, Netherlands mainly adopts the environmentally-sound method of recycling waste, whereas waste of the remaining countries largely goes to landfill sites. It is also of note that the incineration is the least popular in the UK. Meanwhile, the percentage of using chemicals to treat waste is comparable across all nations. Concerning recycling and landfilling, the former waste disposal method is the most preferred in the Netherlands with nearly 80%, making this nation the most environmentally friendly among the four examined. Conversely, Italy recycles merely one fifth whereas Spain and the UK do so with roughly 12% of their waste. Regarding landilling, the UK records the highest proportion of approximately 68% of its waste material being buried under the Earth, in stark contrast to a negligible percentage of virtually 10% seen in the Netherlands. Meanwhile, Italy and Spain share a comparable percentage at exactly 40%. In terms of the remaining methods, nearly one third of waste in Spain is incinerated, around 10% higher than the figure for Italy. However, this type of waste treatment is only used for one tenth of garbage in the Netherlands, and the UK rarely employs this method, registering a much lower percentage at about 5%. With regard to the last way of waste management, its popularity was relatively similar in the four nations. In detail, Italy, Spain, and the UK turn virtually 20% of their garbage into chemical agents, which is about 5% higher than the figure for the Netherlands.
