The pie chart illustrates the employment of graduates in different industries from top US business schools in 2004, while the table compares the average salaries among these sectors and the changes compared with 2003. Overall, the employment in sectors was not evenly distributed in 2004, with a domination of Banking or finance and minimal proportions of Transport and Industrial. For the salary, Financial/banking ranked first and transport ranked the bottom, reflecting the large disparity between them in employment. Also, four tenths of the sectors experienced growths in salaries, while others stayed unchanged or declined. Looking at the pie chart first, Banking/financial was the most prevalent sector, accounting for 29%. The second place came to Consultancy (17%), followed by Telecome/IT which made up 16%. In terms of ‘Other’ and Retail, both industries stayed at the middle places, occupying 13% and 12% respectively. Remarkably, less then 10% of graduates opted to work in the other three sectors: Only 6% and 4% of them chose to work in marketing/media and industrial. Specifically, Transport was least favoured by graduates with a rate of 3%. Shifting to the table, average salaries in Banking/finance were the highest in comparison. Evidently, the other industries shared similar remuneration. In terms of changes, Transport saw the most dramatic increase (8%), though the sector still was recorded to have the lowest salaries. In stark contrast, no changes was found in Telecoms/IT and even a 17% decrease was observed in Banking/finance.
