In the contemporary era, the rate of crime committing is still incredibly high, even in developed countries such as France and America. While supporters believe that circumstances like living in poverty are the overriding factor of committing crimes, critics deem that usually delinquency occured on those who are bad innately. Polarized as people’s views are regarding this issue, I staunchly suggest that surroundings of individuals count more on crimes.

Proponents of the latter idea have legitimate grounds for their positions. To begin with, only those who are naturally bad today dare to commit crimes in societies governed by well-established laws. To be specific, since laws are strictly enforced today, people have a comprehensive understanding of the consequences of breaking laws, such as imprisonment. Therefore, people dare not to conduct wrongdoings, except for those who are born to be bad. Also, genetic factors have great influence on one’s behaviours which cannot be changed easily. Typically, a person whose parents have violated laws before his birth, may be inherently bad. Since the gene greatly determines his behaviours, the person is more likely to break laws as their parents did, occupying the majority of offenders.

Conversely, I still argue that the exterior factors play more significant roles. First and foremost, problems like being economically-disadvantaged is the primary cause. In detail, since people need money to purchase foods and daily necessities for subsistence, they are prone to have strong desire for it. To meet these demands, the impoverished people are forced to steal other’s money, as this is the quickest way for them to get money. What is more, the common misleading guideline on the social media also breeds criminals easily. As governments fail to regulate and supervise the excessive information on the Internet, negative news related to violence, pornography, or bloody contents are endlessly displayed to viewers. Consequently, the frequent exposure to these unhealthy information drives intimation, especially among youngsters who cannot distinguish right from wrong, and thereby compels delinquency. Last but not least, the increasing social inequity also triggers the rising rate of lawbreaking. For example, unfair treatments in workplaces, discrimination existed among hierarchies, prejudice towards special groups like LGBTQ+, all brings a lot of individual discontent and gives rise to lawbreaking.＋

In a nutshell, I perceive that crime is mainly attributed to social factors, including poverty, misleading information on the Internet and the social inequality existed.
