The graphs compare the number of employers who were men and women aged 60-64 in four countries during 1970-2000. Overall, the proportion of the male workers in four countries was considerably higher than female workers while there was a substantially higher gap between men and women in two countries, Belgium and the USA in 2000. Additionally, both the rate of males and females also fell sharply between 1970 and 2000 in four countries, especially in Belgium. In the figure for male aged 60-64 in four countries, the USA were regarded as the dominant countries in the number of male workers throughout the period which had a slight decrease from about 90% to about 80%. In contrast, both Japan and Belgium witnessed an extremely dramatic decrease in this figure. Both two countries dropped considerably by nearly one-third from about 80% to about 50%. Additionally, the number of male employers in Indonesia fell slightly by only 10% which was not quite as high as in the USA. On the other hand, turning to women, employment rates were also lower in 2000 than in 1970 across all four countries. It is most obvious in Belgium when this rate halved from above 60% to under 10% , allowing Belgium to become the area with the lowest number of female workers among four countries. What’s more, although the USA recorded the highest figure in percentage of female workers in 1970, standing at 80% but after the period, the figure declined much to above 50% and this country became the second lowest country, after Belgium. Finally, both Japan and Indonesia recorded marginal declines in the female population, with each falling by around 10%.
