The bar chart illustrates the percentages of male and female teachers in six different types of educational institutions in the UK in 2010. Overall, women accounted for the majority of teachers in nursery and primary schools, whereas men were more dominant in higher education, particularly at universities. At the college level, the proportions of male and female teachers were equal. In nursery and pre-school education, female teachers made up approximately 95% of the workforce, while only about 5% were men. A similar pattern can be seen in primary schools, where around 90% of teachers were women, compared with roughly 10% men. At secondary schools, the difference was much smaller, with women accounting for about 55% and men making up approximately 45%. By contrast, the percentage of male teachers increased in higher levels of education. In colleges, both genders represented 50% of teachers. In private training institutes, men accounted for around 55%, while women made up about 45%. The greatest difference in favour of men was observed at universities, where approximately 70% of teachers were male, compared with only 30% female
