The diagram illustrates the stages involved in the formation of a rain shadow desert, a kind of desert, tracing the process from the winds approaching the coast to the dry winds reaching the inland areas. Overall, the procedure follows a linear multi-stage sequence that begins with the wind reaching the coast along the sea and ends with the dry winds that reach the inland areas across the inland. During these stages, the winds travel thousands of kilometers, passing through different states. In the initial stage, wind from coast is pushed upwards where cold and humid air travels alongs the windward side and passed forming the clouds. After the clouds being formed, rainfalls occur over the mountains. The remaining deals with dry air that moves along the mountains, where it continue to pass along the montains passing the leeward side and reaches toward its final destination where is an inland. Once the dry air reaches the inland areas the rain shadow are formed completeing the cycle.
