The illustration demonstrates changes made to a town centre between 1990 and today. Overall, there are some remarkable differences regarding the replacement of individual shops with a large shopping mall and the transformation of residential houses into apartment blocks. Moreover, pedestrian crossings were added on certain streets, making the town more pedestrian-friendly. Looking at the North side of the town in 1990, there was a block including five different shops such as a newsagent's, a grocer's, a baker's, a butcher's and a cafe, followed by a children's centre at the right end of the block. Today, those five shops have been consolidated into a single shopping mall with the remaining children's centre in the exact same place. Also, the bank across from the town hall on Oldfield Street has been converted into a cafe. Turning to the South side of the map, houses were located along Green Street, opposite the library, the town hall and the park, which were in the middle of the town. However, the old houses have now been replaced by modern apartment blocks, standing in their original positions. The middle block consisting of a park, a library and a town hall, on the other hand, has remained unchanged. Another noticeable change to the town is the addition of pedestrian crossings on both Green Street and Oldfield Street, making the town more pedestrian-oriented.
