As more people choose to live solitarily, opinions are divided on whether this trend is a positive development or a cause for concern. Personally, while such lifestyles can indeed lead to several benefits, I believe it can cause more harm than good.

One of the reasons many individuals in support of the former claim cite is autonomy. Without family members or roommates, living alone allows residents to have more control over their living space. For instance, a mother may restrict their child from doing something for a particular reason, resulting in less freedom and autonomy. Her absence can create leeway for the individual, building a space in which privacy and autonomy are prioritized over strict rules. Finances are an equally important element, as those who live by themselves often incur fewer fees regarding water, food, and electricity.＋Nevertheless, excessive solitary living can lead to averse effects, one of which being isolation. Humans, by nature, are social creatures. Therefore, prolonged and severe isolation can lead to extreme anxiety, paranoia, and disordered thinking, which can negatively impact their work-life or academic performance, in turn affecting their career. They can also damage interpersonal relationships, further escalating the situation. Moreover, the emergence of such a lifestyle has raised concern relating to housing, healthcare, and traffic. Many people who live alone often resort to smaller accommodations, mainly due to their affordability, such as apartments rather than houses, which can contribute to population density. This can cause overcrowded housing and traffic congestion, resulting in slower commute times and increase prices of apartments, especially in urban areas such as major cities. An increase in population density also coincides with a greater volume of patients, which may overwhelm healthcare systems, potentially engendering lower-quality care.
