Some people think the news has no connection to people’s lives, so then it is a waste of time to read the news in the newspaper and watch television news programs. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Word count: 309

Introduction

It is often argued that reading newspapers and watching television news are a waste of time because many news stories have little relevance to people's daily lives. While I agree that some types of news are of limited personal significance, I believe that staying informed about important local and global events remains beneficial. Therefore, I partly agree with this view.

Body

Proponents of the view that it is not worthy to read news as it is separated from people’s lives present some valid points. In the digital age, many tabloids are striving to attract the public’s attention at all costs by publishing exaggerated information and clickbait. This may jeopardize the credibility of the news and render it disconnected from people’s daily lives. Moreover, the news is now full of abstract concepts such as science or outer space, which don’t match immediate social concerns as well as personal interests. As a result, many individuals are becoming more indifferent to the mainstream media.Despite the aforementioned drawbacks, it is imprudent to ignore the merits of watching or reading the news. Television news programs serve as a reliable and rapid means of transmitting information. Such urgent news plays an important role in warning residents when it comes to emergencies. For example, once a storm approaches a city, if citizens are well-informed through media coverage, they can take protective actions and minimize the damage caused by a storm. Furthermore, getting access to various kinds of news can help people acquire multidimensional thinking, thereby broadening their horizon and comprehending how the world operates.

Conclusion

In conclusion, although a considerable amount of news may have little direct impact on individuals and can be time-consuming, it is still essential to keep up with major events that shape society and influence people's lives. For this reason, I only partly agree that following the news is a waste of time.
