The line chart illustrates the amount of oil used in four different regions since 2009, as well as giving predictions until 2030. Overall, if all predictions materialize, the oil consumption levels in the USA ,Western Europe and Japan both experienced a downward trend, while the oil used in China and the Middle East saw a slight increase. Notably, the USA will remain the largest share of oil consumption throughout the period. Looking first at the USA along with Western Europe and Japan, the former was initially the highest figures, standing at nearly 9 million barrels per day, double that of the latter. After this, it reached a peak of 10 million barrels per day in 2015. However, this peak is short-lived, because it is expected to decrease gradually to just under 8 million barrels per day. Despite this fall, it retains its leading position over the period. Similarly, the Western Europe and Japan followed a downward trend , eventually being projected to fall to a low of 2 million barrels per day at the end of the period. Turning to the remaining regions, both China and the Middle East started at the same level, at 2 million barrels per day. After this, China increased steadily, peaking at 4 million barrels per day before being anticipated to dip slightly in 2030. Although China initially ranked last, it overtook Western Europe and Japan to become the second-largest user. Meanwhile, the Middle East also surpassed the Western Europe and Japan in 2025 and it is forecasted to end the period with the figures being approximately under 3% million barrels per day.
