The line graph illustrates the number of people using the three communication technologies, namely fixed telephone lines, mobile phones, and Internet services in China from 1994 to 2005. It is clear that all three telecommunications technologies showed an upward trajectory over the period shown. Notably, the number of residents using mobile phones underwent a dramatic increase, becoming the most widely used technology by the end of the period. In the first year, fixed telephone lines were the only telecommunications technology in use, accounting for approximately 20 million users. At that time, there were no recorded users of mobile phones or the Internet until 1995 and 1996 respectively. Over the following twelve years, the number of people using fixed telephone lines witnessed a steady rise, edging up to 250 million in 2001, before reaching a peak of 350 million in 2005. A comparable trend was observed for mobile phone use, rising steadily to nearly 250 million in 2001, thereafter surpassing fixed telephone lines in 2002 and becoming the most popular means of communication by 2005, at 450 million users. In comparison, Internet usage began in 1996. After that, it also grew rapidly, reaching 100 million users in 1999, and continuing to rise to roundly 200 million in the last year, yet it it remained the least widely used of the three technologies throughout the period.
