Introduction

Some might argue that everybody has the right to access university education; so, governments should make it free for all students no matter what financial background they have. However, whether this policy is feasible or beneficial depends largely on the socio-economic conditions of each country.

Body

Admittedly, some developed countries are defined as strong economies with stable public services. They can provide free university education for all citizens. This can bring both practical and advantageous benefits for these countries. Moreover, these governments have the financial capacity to support such policies without compromising other essential areas. In addition, family income can be not a barrier. Some talented individuals from low-income families can effortlessly access higher education, helping reduce the rich-poor gap and ensure equality of opportunities. When university education is free, more educated people can be seen. By this, providing more skilled workers in various sectors like manufacturing or medicine. Therefore, free university education can drive economic growth and social progress.

However, in many developing nations, the resources are limited and basic needs remain unmet for large segments of the population, so the priority should be put on providing free primary and secondary education. If governments attempt to fund universal higher education without adequate resources, this can put a heavy burden on national budgets and divert funding from more urgent matters. One clear example is Vietnam, where primary and secondary education were free in the past, and more recently free higher education with the aim of eradicating illiteracy and improving educated people.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I disagree with this school of thought. University education should be free for all by governments, but this policy is possible or impossible depending on national budgets.
