The diagram illustrates the life cycle of a honey bee from the egg stage to full maturity. Overall, the entire process takes approximately 34–36 days. Overall, honey bees go through a cyclical process consisting of six stages, beginning with eggs and ending with fully mature adult bees that are capable of reproduction. At the beginning of the cycle, female bees lay one or two eggs every three days. After approximately nine to ten days, the eggs hatch and the larvae emerge. They remain in the larval stage for five days before undergoing their first moult, during which the proboscis begins to develop. Seven days after the first moult, the larvae continue to grow and undergo a second moult. At this stage, they develop a pair of wings and distinctive black stripes on their bodies. After a further nine days, they emerge as young adults before taking another four days to become fully mature.
