The diagram demonstrates how aluminum cans are recycled. Overall, the circular process involves five main steps, starting from collecting metal wastes, and ending with the creation of new cans that are used to package drinks for sale. The most complex part of the process takes place inside the aluminium recycling plant, where the old metal undergoes several transformations before being remanufactured into new products. The process begins with used cans produced by a vending machine, then these cans are collected and moved to a collection centre, where empty aluminium and steel cans are gathered separately into labeled boxes. Once enough cans have been collected, they are transported by a truck to the recycling centre, where the aluminium is separated and compressed into large blocks, and prepare for processing. These compressed blocks are then sent to the aluminium recycling plant, which marks the start of a four-step cycle. First, the old aluminium is melted down in the furnace. This molten metal is subsequently used to produce new aluminium, which is then rolled into thin sheets known as aluminium roll. Finally, this rolled aluiminium is used to manufacture new cans. These newly made cans are transported back to drinks machines, where they are filled and sold to consumers, thereby completing the recycling cycle.
