Essay

The table illustrates the number of five categories of vehicles which were registered in Australia between 2010 and 2014. Overall, the total number of all vehicle types experienced an upward trend. Meanwhile, passenger vehicles were the most popular throughout the period, and light trucks recorded the lowest number. Additionally, motorcycles exhibited the highest proportional growth over the period. According to the table, in 2010, there were 11.8 million passenger vehicles, which was more than five times that of commercial vehicles, at 2.3 million. Two years later, the former slightly increased to 12.7 million, while the latter grew steadily to 2.6 million. In 2014, both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles similarly increased, to 13 million and 2.7 million respectively. Over the four-year period, these figures represented growth rates of 10.20% for passenger cars and 17.40% for commercial vehicles. Turning to the remaining types, motorcycles surged 30.8% to climb from 540 thousand in 2010 to 709 thousand in 2014. By contrast, in 2010, the figures for heavy trucks and light trucks were much lower, standing at 384 thousand and 106 thousand, respectively. By 2012, the number of heavy trucks inched up to 390 thousand, which was triple that of light trucks, at 124 thousand. In 2014, the number of heavy trucks rose modestly by 8.30% to 416 thousand, whereas light trucks experienced a substantial 23.50% expansion to finish at 131 thousand.
