The graph illustrates the percentage of Australian exports to four countries between 1990 and 2012. Overall, while the proportion of exports to China and India increased, with the China occurring by far the drastic rise, the reverse was true for the remaining countries (Japan, US). Notably, despite starting with one of the lowest percentage of exports, China outstripped the others whereas, – despite witnessed an increase in 2010 – India recorded the lowest proportion of exports in the final year. China emerged as the dominant destination for Australian exports during the period. The figure started at a low of 3% and this was followed by a constant upward trend, reaching approximately 27% in the final year, surpassing the other countries. Meanwhile, the proportion of exports to India began at a mere of 1 % - the smallest figure in the whole dataset – and it was followed by a slight rise to 8% in 2010 before dropping slightly to 5% by 2012, making it the worse destination for Australian exports The remaining countries, however, experienced a reverse trend. Starting at 25% - the highest figure an initial year– the proportion of exports to Japan rose slightly 26% before dipping significantly to 18% in 2000. The figure then fluctuated throughout the period and reached 18% by the final year. A similar pattern of drop observed in the US’ percentage of exports where the figure elevated slightly to 13$ from an initial of 12% - though dropped to 8 % in the mid-year – in 2000. Despite this rise, the figure for the US fluctuated and reached 6 % in the final year.
