Introduction

Many young adults now avoid joining in competitive tournaments due to fear of failure. Some individuals, in turn, suggest that there should be a ban on this competition. While I acknowledge the logic behind this suggestion, I still firmly believe that the benefits of competitive tournaments are far more significant.

Body

Those proposing the prohibition of competitive sports may argue that it can discourage young people from joining such types of activities as they are under immense pressure. This pressure is driven by the common assumption that winning the prize is often considered the most important objective in a competition. This really affects people’s view about joining competitive sports, as they tend to overprioritize achieving the highest result which deliberately creates immense pressure. For example, many students worry about being judged by peers and disappointing teachers’ or parents’ expectations, leading to reduced participation in sports. However, there may be some encouragement to lower the pressure of winning by crediting all participants’ effort, helping young people learn to embrace failure and see it as a valuable lesson.

Notwithstanding the potential negative aspects that competitive sports bring, maintaining them is more advantageous in the long run. Chief among these is that tournaments provide young people with opportunities to develop perseverance and personal skills. By being forged and trained in a rigorous environment, participants can determine their own strength and fitness level. This self-evaluation may contribute a lot to their perseverance and personal growth. Another point worth mentioning is that competitions can motivate individuals, setting the stage for future progression. By promoting participants to set a clear objective, competitions play a role like a catalyst encouraging people to practise and sharpen themselves frequently. For example, when preparing for competitions, athletes must set a detailed training plan or itinerary if they want to attain high results. Such clear determination can remind people to practise strictly, improving their physical strength gradually.

Conclusion

In conclusion, although competitive sports may trigger some disadvantages such as intense pressure, I believe their merits are far more substantial which promote personal progression and important skills. Therefore, banning competitions will not be a radical solution; instead, proper training and timely encouragement are more essential.
