It is believed that salary is the most significant motivator that pushes workers to improve their productivity. While acknowledging the benefits that high income brings for employees, I maintain that there are other factors that should be taken into consideration equally.

Granted, money undoubtedly plays a key role in motivating people in the job markets. To begin with, it secures financial stability and allows workers to cover their living expenses. Without sufficient income, an adult employee will be unable to afford their food, clothes, rents and even their children’s tuition fees. Being exposed constantly to financial worries affect people’s mental health and thereby reducing their efficiency and effectiveness at work. Another point is that some people nowadays want to gain recognition from materialistic society. In the contemporary era, individuals tend to assess a person’s values and potential by looking at his or her salary. Hence, in order to feel admired and recognized by the community, people are more likely to pursue jobs that offer high income.However, I think this way of thinking is flawed because there are some significant contributors that bring long-term benefits. Although wages are undeniably necessary to secure a fulfilling life in terms of materialism, they can only offer satisfaction in a short period of time. On the other hand, the working environment where co-workers are friendly and supportive is much more important. If employees put up with constant gossip and toxic relationships with others in the workplace, they tend to be overstressed and unable to focus entirely on improving their productivity. Otherwise, working in a friendly environment, employees’ mental health can be lifted and hence they are able to come up with novel innovations and make greater contributions to the company. Furthermore, passion plays a key role in fostering motivation among employees. Many young individuals nowadays pursue their career out of interest, making their working experience more engaging and motivating them to stay committed to the job in the long term.＋

To summarize, even though salary is a considerable factor when people choose their career path, I maintain that individuals should also take passion and working environment into consideration so that they can stay engaged in their job and fulfill life satisfaction.
