IELTS Writing practice papers for Task 1 and Task 2, graded by AI

This is a bank of IELTS Writing papers to practise with: standard sets you can filter by book number, and forecast papers compiled from recent question trends, for both Academic and General Training. Papers are split by task, so you practise Task 1 or Task 2 on its own, whichever you need.

Find a paper with the search box, for example by typing bar chart or line graph, or open the filters for test format, paper type, Task 1 chart type, Task 2 essay type and whether you have done it. Task 1 papers come with their chart image, so there is nothing to upload as there is when you grade your own question.

There is no timer, so you can write slowly, look things up and revise. When you submit, the AI grades your answer on the four IELTS Writing criteria with an estimated band and specific fixes. When you want to practise under exam time pressure, move on to the timed mock tests.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How is this different from the IELTS Writing checker?

On the checker you bring your own question and answer. Here the questions are ready, Task 1 includes its chart, and you practise one task at a time. Grading works the same way: four criteria, an estimated band and suggested fixes. To grade a question that is not in the bank, choose Use my own topic.

  • What is the difference between standard sets and forecast papers?

Standard sets follow the format and difficulty of the exam and can be filtered by book number. Forecast papers are compiled from recent question trends, which makes them useful for getting familiar with topics that may come up in upcoming exams.

  • Do practice papers use credits?

Browsing papers is free. Each grading uses credits from the wallet you share with Speaking; the Free plan has 30 credits a month. The Writing plan grades Writing without limits.

  • Do I need to sign in to take a paper?

Not to browse the list. To write, get graded and keep a record of your attempts you need to sign in, and each paper card then shows how many times you have done it.
