IELTS mock test online: what each test includes and how it is marked

Each 4-skill mock test follows the IELTS format: Listening has 4 parts and 40 questions in 30 minutes; Reading has 3 passages and 40 questions in 60 minutes; Writing has 2 tasks in 60 minutes; Speaking has 3 Parts in 14 minutes. Sit the whole test or just one skill from it. There are also single-skill tests and a 20-minute entry diagnostic with Listening and Reading. Tests come from two sources: Standard papers (titled by book and test number) and Recent exam papers, written around recent exam sittings.

The exam room mirrors computer-delivered IELTS and, like the real test computer, is in English only: the clock runs on server time, Listening plays once with no rewind, and answers save automatically. Listening and Reading are marked against the answer key, so you see your score, each answer and where to find it as soon as you submit. Writing and Speaking are marked by AI on the four IELTS criteria for each skill; with all four bands you get an estimated overall band.

You can browse the tests without signing in, but you need to sign in to start one. Sitting Listening and Reading uses no credits. Marking Writing and Speaking uses credits from your shared wallet (the Free plan has 30 credits a month); the Writing, Speaking or Combo plan marks the matching skill without limits. Bands are practice estimates, not official IELTS results.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is this IELTS mock test free?

Listening and Reading are: submit and you get your score and the answer key without using any credits. AI feedback on a Listening/Reading test (error groups and what to drill next) is optional and uses 1 credit each time, or is unlimited on the Combo plan. Writing and Speaking are marked by AI, so they use credits from your wallet; the Free plan has 30 credits a month. The Pricing page lists the credits for each section.

  • How are Listening and Reading bands worked out?

Your answers are checked against the answer key, so the score is ready as soon as you submit. On a full 40-question paper, the number of correct answers is converted to a band using the published IELTS conversion tables, with separate tables for Listening and Reading. Shorter single-skill tests give only the number of correct answers, without a band. On the result page you can filter wrong and blank answers, then reread the passage or replay the audio to see where each answer is.

  • What happens if time runs out before I submit?

The clock keeps running even if you leave the page, and the test is submitted automatically when time is up. Listening and Reading are marked straight away. Writing and Speaking are not marked yet, because marking uses credits and we never spend them without asking: your answers stay saved, and you press Grade now on the result page when you are ready. If you press Submit yourself, everything you have done is marked straight away.

  • How are Writing and Speaking marked in a mock test?

Writing is marked by AI on the four IELTS Writing criteria and Speaking on the four IELTS Speaking criteria. In Speaking you hear the examiner read each question and record your answer; Part 2 gives you 1 minute to prepare and up to 2 minutes to speak. Before you start, you check your speakers or headphones and microphone and choose the language for your feedback. You can leave the page while marking runs; if marking fails, the credits used are refunded automatically.
